Academic Proofreading

Lumina Languages offers an academic proofreading service for non-native writers of English who want to publish their work internationally, but feel that some language checks and corrections may be required prior to submission. In many cases, professional proofreading is a precondition for papers to be accepted for publication.

I am a native English speaker educated to Masters level with many years’ editing, revising and proofreading experience. I’ve worked as a proofreader for Cambridge University Press and have proofread a wide range of academic documents such as essays, journal articles, books, research papers and dissertations from a number of European Universities.

I’m familiar with the specific problems that can be encountered by non-native writers of English and can help you to get your ideas across clearly and concisely, ensuring that your paper reads as if it had been written by a native English speaker.

I will go through your document thoroughly, checking for and correcting the following errors and problems:

  • spelling/typos
  • grammar
  • punctuation
  • spacing
  • coherence

Your text will also be made consistent (numerals, capitalisation, regional spelling etc.) according to the relevant style guide. If no style guide is indicated or supplied, I will work with the most frequent style in your document to ensure consistency.

Corrections and comments will be made using the track changes feature in Word. This enables you to see exactly what changes have been made, and the corrections will appear directly in your document, so that you don’t have to incorporate the changes yourself. When you receive your proofread document, all you will need to do is accept or reject the changes as you wish. You will also receive one clean version with all changes incorporated but without the proofing marks.

It goes without saying that any information you submit will be treated in the strictest confidence. No information relating to your work will be shared with third parties and all files will be destroyed once you have received the proofread document.
